According to an historical marker, placed in 1947 by the Standard Oil Company of California near 2225 East Marginal Way South, Seattle, WA, the 1907 service station was considered the “World’s first”. At the time, they may not have known a station in St. Louis that claimed to have opened in 1905. That St. Louis station has no marker and is now buried under Interstate 64. Both are disputed by a 1913 station in Pittsburgh, whose supporters dismiss the 1905 and 1907 locations as nothing more than solitary pumps with garden hoses.
