Enterprise Echo Terminal Custom Metal Stair Installation

Location: Harris County, Texas

ErectaStep metal stairs and platforms were customized and installed at this 3 Million barrel capacity Crude Oil Terminal. Enterprise Echo Terminal (ECHO) is fed by crude from Cushing, via the Seaway Crude Oil Pipeline and connects via various pipelines to refineries in the Houston area.

The ECHO terminal is a large provider of midstream energy services to producers and consumers of natural gas, NGLs, crude oil, refined products, and petrochemicals. Services include natural gas gathering, treating, processing, transportation and storage; NGL transportation, fractionation, storage and import and export terminals; crude oil gathering, transportation, storage and terminals; petrochemical and refined products transportation, storage and terminals; and a marine transportation business that operates primarily on the United States inland and Intracoastal Waterway systems.

ECHO also serves as the receipt point for delivery of crude oil from the Eagle Ford Shale play in South Texas, via the South Texas Crude Oil Pipeline System

Bulk liquids are frequently transported via pipelines, an efficient and cost-effective option. However, when pipelines are not available, tanker trucks and rail cars can be used instead. Tanker trucks are generally used for shorter distances, requiring more frequent refueling and having a lower capacity than rail cars. Rail cars can carry larger volumes of liquid, but they are more expensive to operate and take longer to load and unload.

Anyone who has ever driven a tanker knows that it is not always easy to keep a vehicle moving in a straight line. This is because liquids tend to slosh around inside their containers, making it difficult to maintain a uniform state of motion. This phenomenon, known as “sploshing,” can also occur in tanker trucks transporting liquids such as crude oil. To prevent damage and spillage, baffles are installed inside the tanks. These baffles help to stabilize the liquid by dividing it into smaller compartments, allowing it to move without excessive splashing.
