Steel Railcar Wheel Chocks

railcar chocks blocks

Our cast steel railcar wheel chocks have heat-treated spurs to prevent slipping. To extend product life, they can be turned to provide three new, sharp edges, and they can also be easily replaced. OSHA railcar regulations require that a wheel chock be in place before a train’s railcar can be safely worked on, and our wheel chocks are designed to meet those requirements, including OSHA regulations 1910.110(15), 1910.11(13), and 1910.110(A) (5).

“Whack ‘Em” Steel Wheel Chocks with Reinforced Handles

Idling locomotives and tank cars are subject to greater vibration and potential wheel movement when chocked than other rolling stock. Wheel chocks with rail-biting spurs can get stuck under the wheels. It can be very difficult to free a wheel chock without resorting to force. Ordinary wheel chock handles can bend when forced. Whack ‘Em Severe Duty wheel chocks with the red handles has reinforced steel handles that will not bend from extreme handle pressure. These cast steel wheel chocks has heat-treated spurs for excellent rail-gripping power. The wheel chocks are low profile (less than 3″ above the rails) and fits all rail sizes and wheels from 28″ to 42″ diameter.

CAUTIONS

  1. For use on railroad car or locomotive wheels 28″-44″. Do not use on smaller or larger diameter or on other types of wheels.
  2. For rail sizes 75 to 141 lbs./yd.
  3. Set brake before installing chock. Chock alone may not hold car in place.
  4. Use 2 chocks per car being chocked.
  5. DO NOT install chocks while car is moving.
  6. Rail surface must be clean. Do not install this product on oily or greasy rail – product may slip.
  7. Spurs are important in holding chock to rail. Rotate spur when edge becomes dull. Replace spurs when necessary. Dull or missing spurs may cause chocks to slip.
  8. Do not use chocks on grades. If your track has a dip or a hollow, extra care must be taken to secure car.
  9. Chocks may not hold if rail car is lifted up at one end.
  10. Excessive vibration may cause a chock to slip.
  11. Keep fingers and hands away from car wheel. Watch your head!
  12. On double chocks, always use tarp strap (supplied with chocks) to draw chocks tight.
