EMCO Wheaton Swivel Joints

Single Raceway Swivel Joint – D0002

The D0002 Swivel Joint forms the basis for our swivel joints with one ball track. It has a minimal structural length, minimal external diameter, and minimal weight.

The internal flange makes it possible to change the seal without removing the swivel joint from the pipeline. The D0002 Swivel Joint can be relubricated via grease nipples. If required, the balls can be removed and replaced by first removing the ball track plug.

Swivel Joint for Chemical Industry – D2000

The use of our multifunctional swivel joint – D2000 – optimizes nearly all liquid transports.

Whether in the mineral oil, food, or chemical industry, the D2000 meets the highest standards.  Multiple variants allow the customer to configure to meet their own specific requirements.  Due to the sandwich design, the bearing module is separated from the product-carrying components. It can therefore be used as a standard swivel joint for nearly all media with temperatures ranging from –50 °C to +250 °C with a max operating pressure of 580 psi (40 bar).

Swivel Joint – D1133

The D1133 swivel joint is a variant of the basic D0002. It is the ideal swivel joint for nearly all applications in the chemical industry. It has a minimal structural length, minimal external diameter, and minimal weight.

In the D1133 swivel joint, the ball track is encapsulated by two O-rings, neither dirt from the outside nor product from within (in case of leakage) can reach the ball track. Should the main seal fail, leakage is indicated through the leak detection ports

PTFE Lined Swivel Joint

D2000 – PTFE Swivel Joint is a variant of the basic form. It is internally lined with PTFE and is equipped with a special seal, making it suitable for extremely aggressive products.

Double Raceway Swivel Joint

The D1010 is the standard swivel joint with two ball tracks. It is usually used where large size swivel joints have to take heavy loads (typically for Emco Wheaton Marine Loading Arms). Both ball tracks of the carbon steel version are hardened and polished, giving the swivel joint a high degree of load capacity and long service life, even under extreme loads.

OPW Engineered Systems’ fabricated and cast ball bearing swivel joints allow you to construct a metal piping system that permits easy movement in any direction. Moveable, flexible and reliable, OPW Engineered Systems’ swivels are designed and built to the highest quality standards, including precision machining and 100% penetration welding, with special design features that include:

1. Tight Seals

  • O-Rings provide a tight seal without hindering swivel action
  • Accurately machined and micro-finished grooves provide for minimal seal wear
  • Available in Buna-N, Viton®, EPT, Neoprene, Kalrez® and other seal materials
  • Teflon® seals are available as spring energized or silcone/Viton® encapsulated

2. True Ball Bearing Race Alignment

  • Body and tail sections are locked together by a double row of ball bearings
  • Raceways are machined to precise tolerances
  • Double raceway design assures proper alignment and prevents binding caused by temperature changes and heavy radial loads
  • Carbon steel swivels have hardened races to maximize load-carrying capability
  • Ball bearings are hardened, precision-ground steel
  • Stainless steel swivels have stainless steel bearings
  • All OPW swivels are available with stainless steel bearings on special order

3. Protected Bearing Chamber

  • Protective inner O-ring seal prevents product from entering bearing chamber
  • Outer seal keeps rain, dirt, and other contaminants out
  • Both seals hold in lubrication

4. No Field Adjustment Necessary

  • Balls are held in place by factory-installed plugs that never need to be adjusted to maintain bearing performance

5. Easy Lubrication

  • All OPW swivels are pre-lubricated at the factory
  • All 3/4″, 1″, and submerged swivels are permanently lubricated
  • A grease fitting between races that accepts a standard grease gun is available for swivels that require field lubrication
  • Non-lubricated swivels are available on special order

Swivel Joint Styles

Swivel joints typically are available in one, two, and three planes of rotation for virtually unlimited flexibility. Standard combinations of five different metals and seal materials cover pressures, temperatures, corrosion resistance, and load-bearing capacities well within the limits of most application requirements.

Chiksan® Swivel Joints

As a distributor of FMC, Chiksan swivel joints were designed to last. They are rotational ball-bearing fittings for use in stationary or mobile hydraulic applications. One of the Chiksan swivel joint’s main features is that it can withstand external torque up to 500 percent more than standard pipe fittings made with fixed bearings alone. The Triple Step Swivel Joint gives the operator excellent turning performance at particularly high speeds and under heavy loads while keeping control over the operating pressure limits. The Twin Bearing Swivel Joint has been tested and rated up to 20,000 psi!

For flowline systems throughout a range of applications, FMC’s fluid control products and services offer maximum life with incomparable quality. With the Chiksan® line being their first grand achievement in this field, to the revolutionary designs and integrated services of today that are benchmarked against all competitors, SafeRack is your expert with FMC Technologies products.

Allows operators safe access to the top of rail cars.

We used to take product samples from rail cars as well as open vent hatches for unloading. This can now be done at our unloading zone as opposed to hundreds of yards down the track where our stationary stand resides. This also allows operators safe access to the top of rail cars without having to use ladders or a safety harness to tie off.
