Recognizing the burgeoning demand in the Ready-to-Drink (RTD) category, Diageo, a global frontrunner in premium beverages, strategically expanded its product portfolio to include hard seltzers. The RTD market, which gained significant traction in 2021, is projected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6.3% through 2030, reaching an estimated market value of $1.15 trillion.

To bring this initiative to fruition, Diageo partnered with Haskell, an engineering firm that successfully managed and executed the project within a stringent timeline. The comprehensive installation featured an array of SafeRack components—including gangways, safety cages, platforms, and loading arms—as well as additional elements like canopies, pipe supports, and lighting. These enhancements collectively aim to bolster the safety and efficiency of bulk loading and unloading processes, crucial for the facility’s beverage production operations.

Installation Details

The new installation at Diageo’s facility comprises four main components:

  1. SafeRack Gangway: This gangway is designed to provide secure and stable access to tank trucks. It features a slip-resistant surface and robust handrails, enhancing the safety of operators during the loading and unloading processes.
  2. SafeRack Safety Cage: Surrounding the working area near the tank truck’s hatch, this safety cage serves as an additional precautionary measure to prevent accidental falls from height.
  3. Loading Arm: This loading arm is engineered for the efficient and precise transfer of fluids. It comes with swivel joints for flexible movement for secure loading to the tank truck.
  4. YellowGate Safety Gate: Installed at key access points, the YellowGate safety gate offers versatile swing adjustments and is designed to fit a variety of openings. It serves as an added layer of safety, controlling access to restricted areas and reducing the risk of unauthorized entry and accidental falls.

Safety Measures

Both the SafeRack Gangway and YellowGate Safety Gate are designed with a focus on operator safety. The gangway offers a secure platform for tank truck access, while the YellowGate safety gate controls entry to specific areas, further enhancing overall site safety.

Operational Efficiency

The SafeRack Loading Arm is built for ease of use and durability, facilitating quicker and more accurate loading and unloading of raw materials. Its reliable construction minimizes maintenance needs, contributing to long-term operational efficiency.

Client Feedback

The engineering firm responsible for the project has been pleased with the performance and reliability of the SafeRack installation. The successful installation at Diageo has led to the firm’s continued collaboration with SafeRack for other projects.

The combined installation of SafeRack and YellowGate products at Diageo’s Chicago facility underscores the commitment to delivering practical and effective safety solutions. This project serves as a real-world example of how these products can meet diverse industry needs while prioritizing safety and efficiency.
